Group B Strep positive during pregnancy and not use antibiotics?

IF the baby contracts GBS it can cause terrible illness, however, most babies will not contract it. It is not automatic. Babies of mothers who receive prophylactic antibiotics are at slightly higher risk of infection by antibiotic resistant organisms. If your daughter chooses to get treatment they will give her something to prevent or reduce the allergic reaction to the drugs. If she chooses not to get treatment they can monitor the baby more closely for any signs of infection. There are risks either way. She should discuss these options with her care provider and find what feels the best choice for everyone.
